The YWCA of Springfield is pleased to offer an incredible variety of after-school academic enrichment and recreation programs, called FLOW: Future Leaders Of the World. These programs are collaborations with a variety of community organizations and agencies dedicated to providing youth in Sangamon County with opportunities and experiences that improve their academic aptitude, enhance their natural abilities to be creative with expression, and to decrease their self-doubt and negative self-image.

We believe that the following components are necessary if we are to fulfill our program purpose:

· Academic Enrichment: Includes time to do homework, tutoring in basic skills and enrichment programs that encourage success.

· Life Skills Education: To help prevent a range of risky behaviors, such as substance abuse, criminal involvement, violence, and sexual activity.

· Parental Involvement: Give parents and guardians opportunities to meet with staff to discuss their children's activities and to participate in events that strengthen parent/child bonds and community involvement.

· Recreational/Cultural Opportunities: Provide safe outlets for the participants to try new skills, develop new interests, and build lasting .friendships

· Positive adult mentors: Allow opportunities for participants to develop and maintain positive, sustained relationships with adults through mentoring and other programs that emphasize one-on-one interactions.

· Community service: All youth participating in the FLOW programs will participate in a minimum of one community service activity each year to further promote the ideas community, unity, and collective work and responsibility.
