RESTART: From Welfare to Work
RESTART is an employment with job retention program in which the YWCA provides contracted training and education to clients of the Department of Human Services (DHS). This program is directed toward women and men that receive assistance. Employment is such a basic need in society. The job an individual is able to acquire directly affects all other aspects of their life. Adequate employment or lack of employment affects where we live, the type of food we can afford to buy, what restaurants we afford to patron, what types of family activities we can afford to provide, what type of clothes we can afford to buy, what type of car we can afford to drive, what type of school we can afford to send our children to…. Employment sets the tone for our life as well as that of our children. The YWCA through our RESTART program helps teach women and men entering or reentering the workplace, job skills, computer skills and basic job expectations along with job etiquette. Our goal is that each client leaves our program with all of the following: High School Diploma or GED, a career path that leads the client from job entry into job advancement, job training through either education, vocation or on-the-job, and most importantly a career rather than job, at a self-sustaining wage. |
